Meet Eve Eurydice | Author, Artist, Podcaster
A feminist from the Greek island of Lesbos who is committed to mothers’ rights
We had the good fortune of connecting with Eve Eurydice and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eve, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was inspired by #metoo and as an American born & raised abroad, I wanted to make the conversation about women at work global. I started a free podcast as a labor of love and inclusivity. The podcast resonated quickly and gathered tens of thousands of listeners around the world. That led me to identify a need for this content & to make it into a business
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am most excited about my UMI proposal for Universal Mother Income. I started a podcast on finding a new language for sexual communication called Speak Sex with Eve. What motivated me was that after millennia of sex leading to procreation, humans were free to separate sexuality from parenthood thanks to science, birth control, fertility treatments etc. But all our communication and social value systems were still stuck in the old modality that kept women* especially (*the people getting impregnated as a result of sex) fearful and shameful of all things sexual. I realized it’s time to rewrite the script of intimacy, the rules and expectations, the unspoken assumptions and the implied dualities. In the process of doing field research and interviews with experts in the field on the podcast, I understood our society more deeply and clearly than I ever expected. As a result, I came up with a simple method to upgrade our (global) culture to match our science! That method is the Universal Mother Income.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Miami Beach and one of the things I love most about it is exactly our visitors! How multicultural, multiseasonal, unpredictably changeable our Miami Beach community is. I live on the beach because I love the open space and potentiality of the ocean (ours is the biggest ocean on earth, the biggest space on our planet uninhabited by humans); so I’d take my guest to Soho House or The BathClub or Hotel One or the Fountainbleu for a swim and lunch and music. There are so many amazing venues right on the beach! I’d take my guest for a walk or bike ride on the boardwalk from bal harbor on the North to S. Pointe (my favorite miles along the beach) and on 5th street we’d join Raven for an 8 mile run. (Raven has been running on the beach, 8 miles every day, for over forty years, rain or shine, and he gathers a great diverse crowd of locals who run with him every day.) I’d take my guest for dinner at Joe’s Stonecrab because that restaurant is an institution like Raven and we’d be a few steps away from some of the best live music venues in the country so the night would proceed from the pier to Lincoln Road to West Avenue, covering the narrow water-locked strip that is South Beach and it offers something for everyone—from art to food to music to people watching. Come visit, you’ll likely run into me here.
