The UMI is historically necessary. Every mother deserves a salary and pension. Every mother of preschool children deserves a living wage. The UMI is a basic income available to mothers who qualify financially on an annual basis based on their income taxes and net worth. Universal Mother Income is a bridge to the post patriarchy. The #UMI is a program that raises mothers to social visibility and worth and plants the seeds for mothers’ rights. Rather than keep abortion or marriage as the only choices for maternal financial independence, the UMI gives mothers (and fathers) real choice.
I see the #UMI as a bridge to a rebalance between nature and culture through the revalorization of motherhood. If we are to invest in generations of difference, we must support the liberation and social elevation of Mothers, the independence and validation of Mothers.
Imagine if all mothers were single issue voters!
